About
- In 1946, Clement Attlee sent a Cabinet Mission to India in order to make suggestions and recommendations for forming an government that would lead India towards self-governance.
- On 2nd September 1946, the Interim Government of India was formed to oversee the transition of the country from a British colony to an independent republic.
- It was formed from the Constituent Assembly which was elected in August 1946.
- It lasted till 15th August 1947 when India became independent and was partitioned into India and Pakistan.
- It was a unique and unprecedented cabinet in India’s history where the Muslim League and Congress worked together to share power at the national level, something that had never been done before.
